Could Earth life have already reached Mars?

Nature usually beats us to the punch: Flight? Humankind has had it for about a century, nature for 350 million years. Body armour? Hippo skin is so tough most bullets won't go through it. Communicating with electricity? That's what your nerves do.
  But what about space travel?
 
Yes, space travel to. This idea starts with a bad day for the dinosaurs...



It's hard to imagine anything learning to fly as a result of that* - but that's where the details of how an asteroid impact works come in It turns out that there's an effect called 'spallation' whereby some rocks near the edge of the blast can be thrown all the way into space without getting melted or pulverised.
