The tribesman is the fastest man who will ever live.
Partly through talent. Partly through practice.
But mostly because there’s a hungry bear behind him.
Autumn leaves flash past. Hot breath haunts his neck.
This bear is lame, starving, desperate enough to attack humans. Still, few could stay ahead of it, even for moments.
He spins those moments out. Powers into a long leap, as he reaches the concealed pit.
The bear isn't stupid. Its leg isn't totally lame.
It matches the leap.
Something passes the tribesmans ear, a moment before he lands both feet on the far side.
The bear lands next to him, dead.
There's a javelin in the bears heart. He returns it to the tribeswoman, who has stepped from the bushes.
The man and the woman receive gold: The colour of another sunrise.
"Let's not make this a regular event." She says.
